Upkar is a classic, revolving around the dissimilarity between Indian and Western values and traditions in the recently independent state. The cult movie is about two brothers, Bharat and Puran who choose different paths in life. One chose to stick to his roots and work in the fields to support his family and allow his brother to educate himself, while the other relocated to the city to complete his education.

It was one of the first movies to remind people that even though they might be independent and modern, they need to value their origin as that portrays their journey and struggle that they went through to reach where they are today. The movie did not only show the two brothers choosing different paths, but it also showed sacrifice that Bharat made to educate Puran. However, because of turn of events Puran turned into an insatiable man and got involved in drug trafficking to earn money. This then led to the contrast between western and Indian values between the brothers.

The movie was not only full of dramatic scenes portraying the mindsets of the two brothers, but it also included various songs depicting the same. Songs such as “Mere Desh Ki Dharti” and “Kasme Waade Pyaar Wafa” are very popular even today and are often hummed by the previous generations in spirit of patriotism.

Saat Hindustani is known as ‘The love story of a nation’ as it revolves around a woman, Maria recalling her life as a revolutionary along with six of her countrymen of different religions and background. The seven Indians together try to free Goa from the rule of the Portuguese. The movie was all about utopianism and nationalism as it showcased the seven Indians trying to create a utopian India, which was portrayed well with the storyline and dialogues.

The movie focused on the unity between the seven Indians from different religions and castes who stuck together to free the state. It made a strong impact on the audience as it revealed the difficult times the state went through and how these seven Indians tried to make a change on their level. It showed how caste and creed does not define a man and brought a change in people’s mindset about discrimination between religions.

Music and Dialogues were a big part of the audience understanding the characters’ personalities and the scenes. Songs such as “Aandhi aaye Ki Toofan” describe the dedication to keep moving forward despite the challenges they may face. Som of the dialogues were “Tiranga ek nishaani hai ... Hindustan ke ekta ki, Hindustan ke izzat ki aur Hindustan ke taqat ki” which talks about the value of the national flag of India.
